Our Corporate History
Since 1983, we have been converting Mercedes-Benz transporters to all-wheel drive.
IGLHAUT is looking back at a corporate history of more than 50 years.
Hans Iglhaut and his brother founded an authorised Mercedes-Benz service operation in 1965. With nine employees at the time, customer wishes in the area of maintenance and repair, as well as accident repairs, were served.
Car body and vehicle construction have played a role from the beginning as well. They were able to help a nearby producer of caravans with customised transporters in 1972. The internally constructed wheel base extension received great recognition even in the development department of Mercedes-Benz.
In 1983, the first transporters were equipped with all-wheel drive. Today, IGLHAUT is counted among the all-wheel pioneers in the transporter area.
These are the most important stages of our corporate history in an overview:
1983: Opening.
This year, Hans and Michael Iglhaut developed the first IGLHAUT all-wheel drive based on a request of one of the restaurateurs from the Allgäu.
1986: Second place.
Second in the overall assessment at Liberty Rally Raid from Cologne through Khartoum to Cairo at an outer temperature of 50 °C, 10,000 km of desert – without any technical problems at all.
1998: Patented.
IGLHAUT has the all-wheel drive for Mercedes-Benz Sprinters of the first generation patented.
2008: 25 years of IGLHAUT all-wheel drive.
The new manufacturer release for all-wheel conversion and the factory guarantee for the base vehicle were granted.
2012: Innovation.
The IGLHAUT-conversion to the three-axis vehicle with an admissible total weight of 7.5 tons with a 6x2 or 6x4 drive is presented.
2013: 30 years of IGLHAUT all-wheel drive.
30 years of all-wheel competence.

Since 1965, the IGLHAUT Mercedes-Benz service operating has been located in Marktbreit.
From the beginning, car body and vehicle construction was an important pillar of our company.
For more than 30 years, we have been building our popular IGLHAUT all-wheel vehicles here, at the core of Mainfranken.
Our all-wheel vehicles are used around the world: we have delivered them, e.g., to Andorra, Argentine, Azerbaijan, Brunei, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Greece, Israel, Iran, Ireland, Iceland, Croatia, Morocco, Namibia, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Hungary, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.
Vehicles converted into a motorhome and equipped with an all-wheel drive are highly valued for desert expeditions.
Some vehicles have crossed entire continents or travelled around the world.
Certifications
We are certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:2008.
The quality management standard ISO 9001 is the most frequently used and most important standard in quality management nationally and internationally. Certification according to ISO 9001 forms the basis for a continuous improvement process of our company's internal quality management system.
Process-orientation is an essential principle of ISO 9001. A process-oriented QM system supports all essential operational processes and puts them on the test bench. This way, potential for optimisation can be uncovered even for a good organisation. Documentation, continuous adjustment and improvement creates transparency and clarity, reduces error rates and costs.
Operational processes are simplified. Not only our employees but also you, our dear customers, will profit from this!
Certified Harmlessness
IGLHAUT all-wheel drive – this name has represented outstanding off-road industrial vehicles for more than 30 years.
This anniversary was crowned with the new granting of a harmlessness certificate by Mercedes-Benz for the new Sprinter with IGLHAUT all-wheel drive in 2008.
The release process included, among others:
- Long-term operation on bad roads,
- Driving dynamics coordination and
- Operating strength examinations
After this harsh test programme, performed by the development departments of Mercedes-Benz, the manufacturer release for the all-wheel conversion was granted, which maintains the factory guarantee for the basic vehicle in full. Of course, IGLHAUT provides a guarantee for the all-wheel specific parts.
The driver of an IGLHAUT all-wheel drive vehicle can rest assured that this unique selling point provides him with a thoroughly tested real Mercedes-Benz to drive off- and on-road anywhere in the world.
